FAQ
A: A boat ride off the coast of Hawaii to see molten lava pour into the ocean.
A: Yes! From Kilauea Volcano.
A: Kilauea Volcano, on the Big Island of Hawaii, has been erupting lava since 1983.
A: I know. I want to help you.
Q: Can I see rivers of lava flowing down the mountain?
A: Rivers of lava freeze into solid rock - on the surface. Beneath the surface, lava continues to flow, forming a lava tube.
Q: So the lava goes underground?
A: Yes, until the tube comes to an end - at the sea cliff. Then it pours out into the ocean.
Q: Why are you taking a BOAT
to see molten lava? Is it shooting up out of the ocean?A: Not right now. It is flowing down the mountain
into the ocean. The sea cliff blocks your view from land. That's why we
go by boat - full frontal view.
Q: Why go at sunset?
A: Molten lava radiates light, spectacular
in the evening. Also the
ocean is calmer.
Q: What about sunrise?A: Also spectacular, calm. But, you have to
show up in the middle of the night. The trip would go out into the dark
ocean. It often rains in the early morning. Not as safe, or fun.
Q: This sounds incredibly dangerous.
A: It is - if you are in the wrong hands. But I promise to keep you a safe distance from the molten lava.
Q: How long is the boat ride?
A: The boat ride is 12 miles each way, on a coastline exposed to the open ocean.
Q: So there are big waves?
A: Waves are typically 4 to 6 feet.
Q: This sounds like a rough trip!
A: It can be rough. You should not do it, if you have a bad back, are pregnant, or had a recent injury or surgery.
Q: I gotta do it! Sign me up!
A: OK. Be ready for a powerful physical and mental journey.
Q: What's your phone number?
A: (808)883-1122
