I have been running the Protector out to the lava flow since 2006. My promise to you, as captain, is that I will take the utmost care with your life and safety. The volcano is powerful. The great Pacific Ocean is even more powerful. Please let us know about any physical limitations you may have. This adventure is not recommended for pregnant women, children under 6 years old, and anyone with a bad back or a recent injury or surgery.

Roy! We went on your tour in May 2009. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life; seeing flowing lava had always been on my "bucket list!" I still look at our photos constantly, and I know I will cherish them forever. I don't think I realized what I was getting myself into on the boat ride, so I didn't mention it at the time, but I was about 5 months pregnant when we were on that trip...our daughter is 18 months old now. She truly has the most adventurous spirit I've ever known, and I am pretty sure it had something to do with being in my belly being pitched around in steaming water with lava blowing out of the side of a cliff nearby. Interestingly though, I never once felt even minutely unsafe while we were on your boat. You are a wonderful captain.
The perfect end to the boat ride was flying through the water on our return trip and your co-captain pointing out the glowing plankton flowing through the water behind us. It was practically magical.
In fact, the only part of our trip that was not magical was that there was a 50-something year old man and his wife who were also on the tour and after the first 30 minutes the gentleman was puking his guts out on the boat deck/floor screaming and cussing at you to let him off the boat. :)
THANK YOU for an experience that not many people in the world can claim to have had. I can assure you that the next time we are on the Big Island, we will look you up and see about another go!
