The best time to view LAVA is as day turns to night and the newest land in the world begins to glow with an inner fire.

Black sand beaches and stark lava cliffs fringed by kipuka (areas of lush foliage spared by past flows) will fly by on the way to the ocean entry. Once you get there, you won't want to leave as you truly experience the awesome power of liquid lavafalls.

On the way back, you may be fortunate enough to see a moonrise or just relax in the afterglow of the most spectacular sight on the planet Earth.

Lava Roy departs nightly at 6 PM from the boat ramp at Isaac Hale Beach Park in Pohoiki, Hawai'i.

What is a Volcano Ocean Adventure?

Just what it sounds like. An opportunity to view Hawaii's volcano ocean entry. As lava from the slopes of Kilauea reaches the coast, superheated molten rock meets cool seawater and the effect is incomparable.

Lava Roy can show you what most never dreamed – a glowing river of lava cascading into crashing waves. This adventure is not for the faint of heart though. It takes a thirst for excitement to come on a Volcano Ocean Adventure.

You’ll see brand new black sand beaches and volcanic cliffs created before your eyes as you watch from the safety and security of our 28 foot Protector - the only vessel of its kind on the Big Island (a rugged vessel designed for the harshest open ocean conditions and frequently featured on the "Survivor" reality show as a support vessel for isolated Pacific Island destinations).
